Exshaw, AB – “We applaud and compliment the M.D. of Bighorn on their handling of the public hearing process,” says John Third, Horseshoe Lands’ Director of Marketing and Public Relations. “We value the input and feedback from the M.D. of Bighorn and the numerous stakeholders connected to the Horseshoe Area Structure Plan (ASP).”

Third explained: “Throughout this extensive consultative process with Bow Valley residents, environmental groups, industry groups, the Stoney Nakoda Nation, business owners, community associations and many others, we have clearly established the merits of the Horseshoe Lands project and our long-term vision. Not just for the M.D. of Bighorn, the residents of the Bow Valley and the Stoney Nakoda Nation, but for all Albertans.”

Horseshoe Lands’ holistic approach demonstrates that it will be a balanced, environmentally responsible, fiscally sustainable, and socially responsible community in which to live, work and play. These attributes in turn will establish a benchmark for future generations and contribute to the long-term economic and social fabric of the residents of the M.D. of Bighorn, the Bow Valley, Stoney Nakoda Nation and Kananaskas Country.”

“We have a new and unique opportunity to build a community like no other in Canada - to become the model environmentally sustainable community of the future,” explains Third.  “As an example, we intend to incorporate the latest best management practices and state-of-the-art technology for energy, water, and air quality. We believe that quality water and wastewater services are attainable through responsible, sustainable, and innovative stewardship of our natural resources. We also intend to employ best management practices for innovative town planning and design, housing and energy.”

He also noted, “Among the 100 or so serious inquiries that I received about living and working in Horseshoe Lands, about 30 percent have come from people currently living in the Bow Valley.  During those one-to-one conversations with local residents and business people, I learned that the community of Horseshoe Lands is not only welcome but needed, sooner than later.”

Third added that there is much work to be done and encouraged the M.D. of Bighorn not to lose sight of the fact that this community will be built in progressive increments over a 20-year period. He also stated that Horseshoe Lands is looking forward to the upcoming MD Bighorn’s second reading of its ASP when ideally it will receive approval to proceed.
