Bighorn's Horseshoe Lands Near New-Town Territory
The Municipal District of Bighorn has galloped one step closer to hanging its hat in a new mountain town called Horseshoe Lands.
The council of the M.D. -- nestled in the foothills of the Rockies west of Calgary -- yesterday unanimously passed third reading
of an area structure plan for the proposed townsite, pegged for just north of the Trans-Canada and Hwy. 40 interchange.
The plan calls for the construction of a community roughly the size of a typical small Alberta town located
just outside scenic Kananaskis Country, said project spokesman John Third.
The development is a partnership between Calgary-based Moondance Land Company and Stoney Nakoda Developments.
"Over the life of the project, we will remain vigilant and proactive surrounding issues related to the environment,
fiscal sustainability, housing and water," Third said.
But a new town springing up in the ecologically sensitive Bow Valley corridor could have a serious ripple effect,
say environmentalists worried about where water servicing will trickle from.
